Re: (ASCEND) Mixing MAXEN/PM3's

You'll probably end up running at least two servers, not counting the
backups. The Livingston radius server 2.01 is a fine product, but you'll
miss a few Ascend features that are essential. Filters are among those, as
someone else mentioned the standard filter-id statement won't work with the
maxen. Basically, if you need filters on both the Livingston and the Ascend
units, you'll end up running both servers. There are a several other Ascend
specific issues that would be inconvenient to solve with the Livingston
server.
Another option might be the free version of the merit radius server. It
does support most of the Ascend attributes, last time I checked it supported
about everything except the Ascend filters.
Fortunately it is no problem to run several different servers on one machine,
you can simply use different ports for each of them. Accounting isn't much of
a problem either, we're using a patched version of the ascend server
(accounts into amysql database) for all of our accounting blocks generated
by the Livingston & Ascend boxes.
