Howdy all,
I'm behind on releasing the source for the web utilities at:
http://noc.dreamscape.com/aview/ but as a compromise, I've put the
latest addition into the web page- single-user viewing mode, where you
can "watch" the current download throughput for a particular user, and
I fixed up a bug in the hangup code (which works beautifully for me running
6.0b1). (I needed to add in a small delay for the Max's SNMP tables to update.)
So, the current set of utilities allow you to view the users, their speeds
(download too if you have 5.0Ai13, 5.0Ai28 or 6.0b1), your RADIUS
statistics for timeouts and such, and the event log contained in the Max's
SNMP tables -- which I am still figuring out how to clean up and be more
readable.
The very next feature (which I am still debugging) will allow you to
input a set of max hostnames (or IPs), give it the SNMP read community,
and the web utility will search for duplicate logins, and link to the
hangup-utility for each one it finds. Since all the hangup functions
work based on session-ID, you're pretty much guaranteed that you'll
-never- hang up the wrong person (session-ID's are unique for the duration
of time a Max is up and running.) This should help a lot of people locate
and terminate abusers who take advantage of our current lack of the
ability to enforce single-session limits.
Here's what I wrote in the "What's New" page:
---
* Added single-user view program, which updates itself every 15 seconds,
and by cheating with passed variables in HTML, I can figure out download
_throughput_. I imagine this is raw throughput, so if Stac compression is
being used, you probably won't see anything higher than the raw bps of
the connection speed. It isn't terribly accurate, but if you let it
collect data for a couple of minutes, the possible errors in the network
delay for retrieving the page and calculating the elapsed time round
themselves out. Probably one of the least expected but most useful
utilities I put on here yet.
It is actually pretty neat if you look at a max that is connected via a T1
on the V.35 serial port. Also included a link to the hangup program from
the single-user view page. Let me know what you think.
---
So, check it out at http://noc.dreamscape.com/aview/ It's free to use via
the web, and there's information on the page about obtaining source code.
(Developed on Solaris 2.5, but is Perl5 with one extension- the SNMP 1.6
module.)
