At first I thought it was a bug, like the OOB packet bug in Windows NT.

Isn't the configurator Java-based?  I don't use it, but the fact that it
is written in Java should mean that it ought to run just about anywhere.

I agree with a previous poster.  The 'right way' to do this is with a
documented SNMP reset command.  IIRC there used to be one of these, but
Ascend took it out.  (Too many people leaving their write strings at the
default?)
