Re: (ASCEND) TNT -- Full duplex Ethernet?

Well, it would appear that we finally found the problem. After a couple of hours
on the phone with ascend yesterday while they dug around in our TNT, we replaced
the ether2 card and everything is working now. We still don't know it it was a
bad slot or a bad card (long painful story), but it's working now. It just goes
to show, yet again, if all else fails, try the card in a different slot and never
assume that something works just because you just pulled it from the crate. We
had a spare TNT on the workbench that we pulled a card from that worked fine in
another slot. Now that it's up, I can't afford to take it down again to find out
if it was the slot that was bad or the original card (boss would kill me.)

Of course we still don't know why neither TNT can handle the traffic load on it
shelf controller ethernet port. After all, when they sold us our first TNT they
didn't even have ethernet cards to sell and up until 2 weeks ago everything was
fine. It was only seeing a total of around 4megs of traffic at peak utilization
and the load hasn't changed that much in the last few months.

Oh, and for some reason the TNT and our new 3COM 3900 switches don't seem to be
able to auto negotiate a Full duplex connection. The ethernet errors didn't go
away completely on the new card until I forced the switch into full duplex. We
never did get an answer out of support why they don't seem to be negotiate a full
duplex connection automatically...
