(ASCEND) Mac, Max 4K, & "unknown rate"

Hi all,

I have a client trying to connect with a Mac powerbook using a Global
Village PC card modem and Internet Dialer version 1.03 (Oct 97). I'm running
6.1.7 on my Max 4048 with 56K cards. He's also an AOL user and says his
connections with them are normal.

His connections consistently fail leaving a log like this:

He gets an error message on his Mac that says "connecting at an unknown
rate"

Anybody seen this? What can he do to fix it?
