(ASCEND) Message when SLIP is started?

We have a customer who needs to connect an AS/400 to our Maxen via modem. 
The AS/400 only supports SLIP (yecch... welcome back to the Iron Age...). 
We need the Max to send his AND OUR address when SLIP starts.  I can't
immediately see a way to do this.  I can change the format of the message
sent when PPP starts, but can I embed a \n in that message, and is it also
sent for a SLIP connection?  Anyone done this before?
