Use a different filesystem than ext2. :-) I think ReiserFS will
handle large files, but I'm not sure. Sounds like something to test.
Also, it shouldn't be too hard to use dd to generate several
< 2G sections that are pasted together (again with dd) to make a
complete harddrive.
