Well, spells are going from your hitpoints still - when you 
are consuming hp:s, you are playing with death.

Yes, but you can fumble healing spell, depending from your wisdom, also.

There could be some ratio from heal to magic, for example 1 hp => 0.75 mp.
Or it could be dynamic, depending from intelligence.
