(ASCEND) IBM Thinkpad 600e Internal modem connects slow?

I have had a series of calls from users switching over to my Ascend 
6000 using internal modems on a Thinkpad 600e...they complain of 
connect problems and slow connects(2400) Anybody heard of any issues 
with these modems, or is there a place to look for this issue....my 
nexial search came up empty....

max 6000 running 7.2.0 tbaxkh.m60
