A word concerning the readability and convenience of a threaded newsgroup
vs. a mailing list. I subscribe to the list via my company account. All
email from the list is filtered to our news server via procmail and put in
a local newsgroup for all our admin folks. That way I can also subscribe to
the list/newsgroup from my private account and read the messages with all
the comfort a modern news reader like TIN offers :)
In addition to that, several colleagues who might administer the units will
have a pool of information when the need it, or feel they might want to
read up on what's new with this type of equipment. The last big plus is
that we're sort of archiving the traffic, I think the expire for the group
is set to something like 6 months.
Scripts to accomplish the posting of email messages to newsgroups are
readily available and very easy to set up, if in doubt, use your favorite
search engine to look for "tonews" or "mail2news".
