Mind you, this may be because my feed is in the backwaters and therefore
has plenty of time for the spam cancels to catch up enroute, but I've
been pleasantly surprised by the relative lack of spam and inappropriate
crossposts in the comp.dcom.sys hierarchy. I've been reading the .cisco
group and and keeping an eye on .bay-networks and .nortel just out of
principle.

I tend to think that there actually is less of a problem there, because
I sure see it in a lot of the other groups I read. :)

Although I'd like to stay away from a moderated group, if at all
possible (merely because it becomes much more difficult to push through
a moderated group than it does a non-moderated one, and in this case the
news.groupies are going to look and point out that the other groups in
the same hierarchy don't have moderation and don't appear to be
suffering, so why do we need it?), I'm open to doing some sort of
robo-moderation scheme, if a sufficient number of people are worried
about it. I'd encourage folks to take a look at the "neighborhood" the
proposed group would be in and see if my observations are unique to my
newsfeed or if it really is, as it seems to me to be, in a quieter part
of Usenet.
