RE: (ASCEND) multishelf TNT

I agree that it doesn't much matter whether you consolidate modems in one
shelf and T-1/E-1s in the other of leave them configured as is. I have
left both TNTs configured in a similar manner as yours and I find it works
well. The benefit I have realized is that should I lose the slave, I still
have a fully functional environment. Of course if I lose the master, then
I have nothing.

As for connecting the shelves, you will need two straight-through cables.
Some folks have used level 5 (or Cat 5) cables without a problem but if you
do not use the cables provided by Ascend then supposedly you will not
receive technical support should problems arise with the shelf
configuration. The Ascend cables are specially configured to handle the
load between shelves and they are very impressive (insofar as cables can be
impressive). I recommend getting the cables from Ascend... it is worth it.
Actually, each TNT is supposed to come with one cable so if you have two
TNTs then you should already have two cables.

Indur,

The card location does not matter much to my opinion.

Set the master shelf to master in the system profile
set the slave shelf to slave in the system profile
and set the rotary switch of the slave to 2
connect them up using the appropriate cables (I think a FTP cable
straight is to be used)
note that port 1 of the taxibus on the master needs to be connected to
port 2 of the slave and vise versa.

reset -a and your done.

Good luck
