Re: (ASCEND) Disconnect Code
Who made the chipset in the modem? My laptop, running Win95, has a Rockwell
based modem and I don't get disconnected.
I'm thinking that modem chipsets or their coding is playing an increasingly
important role in getting connected and staying connected. I find that
whenever I have a customer with this kind of problem and I can convince them
to bring the computer in, by simply replacing the modem I solve the problem.
That, of course, is not the solution they want - especially those that just
bought el-cheapo modem mail-order or just bought a new "Internet Ready"
computer.
Now, the chipset should not make any difference at all if V.90 is well
defined and strictly adhered to. So I think coding is probably the most
important factor and for Ascend owners, coding compatible with the latest
Rockwell implementation is absolutely critical. I remember a similar
problems with every new V.xx standard when it first came out, so I expect
this will become less of a problem with time.
