Sometime ago it was mentioned on this list that heavy traffic on the
ethernet port would cause a Pipeline to reboot...not being able to cope
with every packet on the wire.
Could it be that MAXen will run into trouble as well?
I would guess "a lot of traffic" from the # of collisions, not
necessarily a network problem.
Suggestion: put the MAX on to a switch port and see if the problem
vanishes. Maybe a friend or a neighbour could bring in his spare switch
for a couple of hours :-P
