It's more tightly controlled than most commercial distributions of
Solaris...

Regardless of whether Ascend believes that freeware operating systems must
run only 100% free software, the fact remains that the three most popular
Unices for ISP's are Solaris, Linux, and FreeBSD, and Ascend only supports
one of them.

Besides, the ISP's are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars for MAX
hardware.  You would think that the cost of the OS would not be the ONLY
determining factor in its selection...
