Re: (ASCEND) Kudo's to Engineering. (fwd)

Correct, I've spend the last few days researching this and here's what
I found, Most Rockwell bases client modems out on the market today contain
1MB ACF chips. These chips can support either V.90 or K56flex at any one
time. Resources at Ascend say that Rockwell is going to supply a utility
which will allow the end0user to switch back in forth between V.90 and
K56FLEX when they want.

*NOTE*

Only one of these protocols can be in the ACF memory at a time.

*NOTE*

So pretty much you would load up V.90 when wanted, if you were not happy
you would load up KFLEX at your leisure since both will stored on
you hardrive.

Good News
---------

Newer ACF chips produced by Rockwell have increase memory to 2MB, and
this will allow the newer client modems to support both V.90 and K56Flex
at the same time.

On the NAS side, things are looking good, Ascend has plenty of room
for all protocols, since they use the Rockwell CSM server chip, the
memory resides on the modem module. And apparently there is enough room
to have support for V.90, KFLEX, V.34, V.Whatever. :)
