Something I have to wonder a whole lot about is all the apparently wasted
NVRAM space.
For example, in the 4000, for BOTH sets of 2-each T1/PRI WAN interfaces,
there are FOUR sets of useless (AFAICT) configuration parameters for TWO
WAN interfaces... that adds up to (apparently) NVRAM space for 16 whole
sets of T1/PRI configuration parameters that is completely useless!
And something else, which is certainly arguable, is all the Filters
space... do people really setup 12 different kinds of filters? Or the
space for 100 bridge addresses... given that Ascend more or less recommends
not using bridge addresses, how many Ascend Customers (who upgrade their
software) really use 100 bridge addresses these days? There's some other
examples, but I'm sure the point is made.
Given that there seems to be NVRAM space that is completely wasted, and
other NVRAM space that arguably might be wasted, couldn't Ascend re-work
the NVRAM allocation and allow even just 12 more Connection Profiles?
There's plenty of applications where it doesn't make sense to go through
the trouble and expense to set up a RADIUS server (which could have plenty
of problems of it's own); even just a few more Connection profiles could
really help!
