I can see why that would be bad for you, but my main concern when buying a
UPS is that it works, works perfectly, and keeps on working perfectly.
Automatic shutdown and reporting capabilities are a secondary concern. I
don't care how many stats a UPS can give me, its main job is to keep my
equipment running during power outages and protect it during power
anomolies. If it fails me once, it's junk. I've had problems with other UPS
products in the past, but APC products have been workhorses.

It would be nice for them to drop their proprietary ways, however. For a
product like this, I can't agree with a proprietary philosophy. It makes it
look less like you care about your customers and more like you care about
money.

APC does advertise a lot, but unlike other companies that advertise a lot
(Micro$oft), they actually have products that can back up their claims. At
least in my experience, their advertising has been honest and informative,
their products have been flawless, and their customer support very
knowledgeable and friendly.

I put my money where my mouth is. I protect all the equipment I administer
(and personally own) with APC products. I'm not closed-minded, however. If
I find another product that is as good or better, that's what I'll
recommend.
