True, but....

CUSTOMER:	My modem worked fine two days ago, and now I can't connect!

ME:		We upgraded our modem bank 2 days ago.  What kind of modem do you have?

CUSTOMER:	It's a [insert known v.fc modem here]...

ME:		Well, there's your problem, sir.  That protocol sucks.

Not exactly the customer service model that I'm shooting for. *grin*

The question at hand here isn't 56k being based on v.fc.  It isn't.  The
issue is making the modems *compatable* with v.fc modems.so that legacy
hardware isn't suddenly shut out in the cold.  We just upgraded all our
Maxen to the new patch.  We'll see over the next couple of days whether it
delivers what it advertises.
