You can cut and paste sections into xorg.conf if you've got a copy of your
old one, but for crying out loud, what kind of solution is that? I've got
the same problem, Ubuntu thinks my monitor only goes to 1024x800. Manually
adding the modeline works, but it will not start X at 1200x1024 no matter
how I try to convince it. Even cut and pasting the entire section into xorg,
with 1024x800 commented out, doesn't stop it from starting X at 1024x800.
