I regularly sync my Treo 650 to Evolution with Ubuntu Dapper.

Evolution

  Devices
  Port: /dev/ttyUSB1
  Speed: 115200
  Type: USB

The only quirkiness is that I've had most success when I...
1. press the HotSync button on the USB cable
2. immediately start gpilotd *on the command line*

I'm not sure why gpilotd doesn't "do the right thing" in the background,
but this allows me to sync just fine. And, FWIW, the calendar
interface is better than jpilot.
