We use WP 7 for Linux here at work. Since everyone has a X Terminal at
their desktop, they run WP7 on my Linux desktop machine and display it on
their X terminal. We were planning on upgrading to the server version, but
have decided to wait until version 8, and possibly Netwinders on the
desktop instead of X Terminals.

The thing that server version would give someone is a manual, CD, and the
ability to run more than one copy on a machine. Since the main
distribution of WP7 for Linux is web download, the manual and CD are nice
to have. As far as I know, the only thing you can buy is the CD for
personal edition, no printed manual is available unless you buy the server
version.

WP7 comes with a license daemon/server which makes sure there is only the
number of licensed copies running. I think you can also set it up so that
everyone would have a local copy installed, but the license daemon would
make sure there were only the number of licensed copies running at one
time on all machines.

I was planning on buying a copy of WP8 for home use, but I might just save
my money and just download it...
