Well, I think the next thing to do would be to run 'lsmod' to see if the
module remains loaded...

Also, you may want to make sure that your PS/2 port is enabled in your
BIOS (though I'm not sure if Linux really cares about that or not...) 
Do you have any DOS/Windows on that box?  You may want to try using the
mouse with a DOS app...  (or just getting DOS's mouse.com (?) to load..)

It's been a while since I've used DOS extensively...
