RE: [TCLUG:1781] DNS server timing out
Before started named, when I did an nslookup on the linux box I see:
[root@spot /root]# nslookup yahoo.com
*** Can't find server name for address 204.120.158.68: No response
from server
Server: maude.state.net
Address: 204.75.238.240
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: yahoo.com
Address: 204.71.177.35
State.net is my ISP and is setup as my secondary DNS server.
I then ran named.restart and looked in my messages file. I saw the
following message:
Oct 15 11:00:26 spot named[1956]: starting. named 4.9.6-REL Thu Nov
6 23:29:57
EST 1997 ^Iroot@porky.redhat.com:/usr/src/bs/BUILD/bind-4.9.6/named
Oct 15 11:00:41 spot named[1956]: There may be a name server already
running
Oct 15 11:00:41 spot named[1956]: exiting
This doesn't make sense since when I did the restart it said:
[root@spot sbin]# named.restart
No processes available.
Plus when I did the grep on ps again after the restart it is still not
showing up.
