SCSI Problems

I have recently added a Seagate SCSI Barracuda U/W.  I have been
encountering strange problems.  I just downloaded GIMP 1.0 and tried to
compile it.  About half way throught the compile I can here my new
harddrive beeping at me and shortly after the compile dies and spits back
these errors.

scsi0: MEDIUM ERROR on channel 0, id 0, lun 0, CDB: Read (10) 00 00 e9 07
Current error sd08:01: sense key Medium Error
Additional sense indicates Unrecovered read error
scsidisk I/O error: dev 08:01, sector 15271710, absolute sector 15271773

I also have a Toshiba 32X SCSI CD-ROM and a SCSI Zip on the same card.
It's an Adaptec 2940U/W.  I'm running Linux Kernel 2.0.34.  Thanks for any
