Well, xemacs (rather than emacs) will do excellent syntax hilighting,
indenting and all the purdy stuff.

If you want a wysiwyg editor, there's always Netscape's Composer, or
Mozilla's (lemme check if that one works. Yeah, it looks 'neat' too). 

I'm pretty sure Gnome/KDE come with one. 

Quick search on freshmeat will probably get good results.
