Your problems sound similar to what I experienced when I put my new 30GB
Maxtor in my system. What I discovered is that I *think* the 2.0 kernel
doesn't do well at recognizing drives with >16384 cyliners (I think that's
the number), but the 2.2 kernel works perfectly. (I tried slink install
CDs, found they didn't work, went to the potato install "floppies" and it
worked perfectly.)

So are you running a 2.0 kernel?
