Reliable Linux/Samba print servers?

We've touched on lpd, LPRng and CUPS.  I'm aware of the printfilter/EOF
issue in RedHat Linux.

I need to come up with a reliable Linux/Samba print server for my company's
remote divisions.  It will be queuing jobs for HP JetDirect-connected
printers.  RedHat 6.1/lpd/Samba is not up to the task; it gets stuck
frequently on DOS-based print jobs, and I have to fix it by cleaning out the
print queue and restarting lpd.  Unfortunately, fixing the DOS-based
software is not an option.

What Linux distribution/print spooler combination is working for you?
