debian install problem

The box came preinstalled with RedHat Linux 6.x I am trying to install Debian.
I have an install CD which I have used on many machines and it has the patest
stable kernel (2.2.x series) The CD boots, and scrolls through the kernel
messages untill it reaches a point where I recieve the following messages:

PIIX4: IDE Controller on PCI Bus 00 Dev 11
PIIX4: device not capable of full native PCI mode
PIIX4: device disabled (BIOS)

then it just dies, I loose video and all other activity.

When I pull the CD out and reboot the redhat install it boots fine. Further
inspection of /var/log/messages shows the same thing, then it goes into the
floppy drive portion and boots fine. Is there some option to lilo I need to
call upon boot or a BIOS option I need to set in order to install? I sincerely
hope I am not stuck with redhat.

I tried other Debian CD's as well.

FYI, the system is a Dell Poweredge 6300 and the debian CD is an unofficial
potato netinstall cd that I made from an iso I downloaded. I have used the cd
on other machines and it works great. any hel would be greatly appreciated.
