There are some parts of the XF86Config that are about the same between
various video card/monitor combinations. Here are some settings I
discovered after a lot of Deja searches. I've used them with my
Diamond Stealth 3D 2000 and Sony 520GS. The card appears to have a
noise leak (ingress?) that makes things a little wavy ... or the
monitor (brand new) is the source of the waviness. So I'm still
operating at 1280x1024. At least everything stays (mostly) in one
place instead of wiggling. {sigh}
These go in the 'Section "Monitor"' section. I did things the
brute-force way, commenting out all but one, firing up X, and seeing
what happened.

Once you've got something visible, you can use "xvidtune" to center
everything. Or you can use the monitor's built-in controls to do
that. Or both.
