A question so simple it's not in the documentation...

Okay, I admit it.  It's sad that I can't figure this out.  I have KDE running
in Mandrake, and the installation set it up to boot straight into the gui
login.  This would ordinarily not be a problem, except now I need to get to the
terminal.  How the heck do I exit XWindows without going to the gui login?  Or
how do I have to boot?
Just when I start to think I know what I'm doing.....
