Re: [TCLUG:14233] Times, dates, and gripes

That's fine - if it were just a conference, I would see no problems
with it. However, what I, and the people I have talked to in TCLUG
have said to me is that having the InstallFest be during the day
eliminates the vast majority of us TCLUGs from attending that
particular portion of the event.

I, as most of the people I have talked to, are always excited by an
InstallFest. As such, we were very dissappointed in not being able
to help/show off our distribution expertise. I don't see why the InstallFest
needs to be during the day. Most of the people who are interested
in attending a conference are likely not to haul their PC along. Conversely,
many of the people who are interested in getting Linux installed on their
PC are not interested in taking off a work day to install it.

I'm excited for the conference, and I hope it does really well. I just
question
the judgement involved in bundling the InstallFest into the conference,
especially during such an inconvienient time for us "Distribution
Experts".

Subject: [TCLUG:14233] Times, dates, and gripes

I would like to take a minute to explain why we are having the conference on a
weekday and in the morning.

First, this is not a normal TCLUG meeting. It's a professional conference
geared towards introducing people to Linux. It will alot more formal then the
monthly events.

We are trying to reach IT professionals who are currently using Linux and want
to learn more about it or who want to know how Linux can work in their current
office environment.

According to the marketing firm that we have hired to help us promote and put
on the conference weekdays, mornings are the best times.

And to be honest, I have never been to a professional conference that are not
in the mornings and weekdays.

Second, there will be exhibitors there and let's face it sales/marketing
people don't work on weekends :-P And at night they go home and sleep so they
are all annoyingly awake and friendly in the morning.

Third, this is an all DAY event. We would not be able to squeeze everything
in if we started it at night.

I know this is not perfect for everyone, but I am sure it's the best solution
for most of the people we are trying to get to come to this thing.
