Thanks to you who recommended macmall -- in my own personal web of elitism
I  never checked the Mac catalogs, just the networking specialist
catalogs.  I've decided to bugger the serial port and I have an ascend
localtalk-to-ethernet converter on the way.  While I have a terrible bias
against ascend (thanks to thier Pipeline ISDN routers and their half-assed
OS implementation) I have great hopes for thier converter (thanks to thier
marketing page -- you'd think I'd learn). I'll let you all know how my
lpd/netatalk/samba implementation goes.
