I remember the faulty pickup mode being a feature of the last 
"Stable" release, ie. 0.95.5

This was fixed in the cvs tree fairly soon afterwards.

Perhaps it is time for a new release? A LOT of things have been fixed/changed
since the last release and it would be good to have more people testing/
finding bugs
