Well, with a java server, the whole thing could be threaded
very easily which is something the current server could probably
never do. And for a fast paced action game, a multithreaded 
server is pretty important. Besides, java is just a better
language then C or C++ and with a good JIT, java
is plenty fast. Rewriting the whole server is Java is going
to be a lot of work and may never get done but if people
want to do it, then let them.
