Sounds like a password to me.  Or very close to a password.
You can't lose a password after all, and it is slightly
easier to give to someone else.

I used the password approach in the Demonology maps.  The reason
why was because of the crashing problem, but people have complained
that the demonology maps become too easy once you've learned the 
passwords to the center tower.
