Unlike in the update from 0.89.3 to 0.90.0/1 where I had this problem
too, all the updates since have caused no problems at all in this area
for me.

With the 0.89.3->0.90 I ended up generating a new character and editing
the player file manually to regain the stats of the old one.

Simple really, but on the boarders of cheating, I know. :-(
