(ASCEND) ppp negotiation problems w/7.0.22 on MaxTNT



I have a MaxTNT on evaluation running 7.0.22 and will freely admit that I am
still getting a hang of the TAOS architecture for the purposes of
administration, debugging, etc.  Since this is an evaluation unit, I have
only non-priority tac access and a sales SE who is unavailable 3/4 of the
time.  Anyway... to the problem at hand:

This unit is replacing a cisco 5300 to support primarily win98 dial up users
with the usual assortment of hopelessly inferior modems.  Since it was
installed about %10 of the people dialing into the unit are getting
disconnected during ppp negotiation others seem to get assigned a duplicate
ip address and cause a lan security error and are then ejected.  I am
attempting to look into the the cause codes at what numbers are turning up
more frequently but I also thought this might be related to the current code
release since I have seen several complaints about 7.0.22 code.  I assumed
this is the latest though why 7.0.4 came before 7.0.22 I am not entirely
certain.  Again, I am new to this product line.  This is related to the TNT
however as when I plug the cisco back in call volumes go right back up.  Any
help in what I can do to trouble shoot the problem, including useful debug
commands and such would be extremely helpful.  I have already lost 35
customers since I was asked to switch our ras servers from Cisco and
Livingston over to ascend.  TIA.
