(ASCEND) Generic MAX 40XX series questions

I have quite a few (ok,  10) max 40XX series units, a few 4000's, a
couple of 4004's and some 4048's  now quite a few of these have
different firmware loaded.  i.e. ftik.m40 vs ftbk.m40 and so on. 

My first question, is are these interchangeable on each max? Just
depending on what features I want to load?  I would like to
standardize between all of them because they all do the same thing.

My second question, how interchangeable are the config files between
different versions of the MAX?  I would like to be able to have a
single  config file that all I have to do is change the IP's and then
upload it to the MAX and go. But, if there are incompatibilities
between different MAXen then I sure don't want to do that.  However it
would sure make my life easier!
