(ASCEND) Clear a Modem

I'm sure this is in the documentation somewhere, but I can't seem to find
it.  Anyway:

How would I clear a modem (without resetting the max) that doesn't seem to
be resetting after someone telneted to it?  Ex:  If I type show modem it
says "in use", and it has been that way for 3 days.

Also is there a proper way to exit a dialout session without doing a ^]?
