(ASCEND) UDP Overloading NAT?

We've got a P130 doing ISDN for a small office and lately we've been
running into some problems. Specifically, the router seems to 'hang'
for periods of anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, sometimes
it seems to drop the connection all together (although it is immediately
reestablished). The router is doing NAT for a network of approximately
75 machines.

I've talked with our vendor on this one - everything is OK at his end,
and I'm pretty sure that everything is pretty OK at our end. His
suggestion was that UDP (From AOL IM and other apps) might be overload
NAT and therefore causing these problems. His suggestion for a fix is
to let one of the other servers provide the NAT function (which is
simple), but I'm curious - does this sound like a plausible situation?
Has anyone run into to this type of thing before?

Thanks,
Jim
