It can definitely be done. We used to regularly tftp configurations to
and from a FreeBSD box across a variety of IP networks. Would the Linux
box be acting as a firewall, perchance? Make sure these ports are open:
tftp 69/tcp #Trivial File Transfer
tftp 69/udp #Trivial File Transfer
