I recently replaced the fans in our MAX 4000 and decided to try staggering
the modems to aid in cooling. We have 3 16 modem cards in one and 2 in
another with an HDLC card. Since the power supplies are on the left side
(as viewed from the rear) I'd suggest putting 1 card in the center left and
2 on the top and bottom slots on the right. I haven't run into any problems
with incoming calls thus far.
Note, if you take your MAX apart, BE VERY VERY careful of those LEDs on the
front. Why Ascend didn't put a remote LED panel (Well, cost of course!) is
anyones guess but those guys are just really really really long lead LED's.
The leads are about 2" long and very easy to bend when taking the cover off
or putting it back on.
