(ASCEND) Max4000 problem

hi everybody,

one of our maxes suddenly couldn't get any connection, i can't ping it's ip
address, i tried to access to thru terminal but at first it didn't work...
it just worked when i took out the modems... i tried putting back the
modems one by one and found out some defective modems...got some working
modems and tried to plug it in, the max's able to respond to it, but when i
try to plug in more than one modem, the max wouldn't respond, not even try
to boot thru the terminal,

has anybody here, experienced this? i need your suggestions asap....
