Re: (ASCEND) FCC Says Let modems go to 56K.

I have actually been able to make a good 54k connection to a TNT using
MSDUN but in testing Xircom modems using a variety of S register settings,
I actually was able to make a 56k connection through Hyperterminal... not
MSDUN.

You know that the modem vendors are required to limit their modem
capabilities due to FCC regulations. The typical modem transmits at a
-13db and by the time the call is completed to the NAS, the average signal
strength for a high-end V.34 call is -21db. To get higher V.90 speeds,
total db loss should hoover around -18db. By adjusting the modem transmit,
we may actually be able to achieve these higher 56kb connect speeds. Most
of your higher end modem vendors provide a method of forcing V.90 and
adjusting the db loss using S registers.

What's the highest 56k connects everyone gets?

We have a guy who consistently gets a 54000 connect, the norm is of course
44-50k around here.
