For current normal operation, I have to agree with this. There is no
danger of the call setup information overwhelming the D-channel and the
D-channel is not involved in data throughput.
However, to give the 3com vendor the benefit of the doubt, maybe he had
just been listening to a presentation on Always On Demand ISDN (AO/DI),
which with a large number of clients *could* overwhelm a D-channel.
It is not clear to me what effect this would have on call setup, but
it should not have a large effect on data throughput when using MPP,
since B channels will be added as needed to meet the bandwidth needs
(assuming call setup was still working :-).
In general, without some technical information to back it up, I would
treat the original comment as an attempt to spread FUD.
