I saw something when trying to do the same thing recently that said make
the MTU 1522 on the MAX because 1524 freaks the Cisco. This was either on
Cisco's web site or Ascend's.
Other things to note: the Cisco will respond to the CHAP authentication
that a MAX will send it if it is configured to Auth=Both. (This is not
directly relevant to this discussion because that is not how Neale has his
MAX configured.) You need to tell the Cisco:
interface BRI0
ppp chap refuse
If you want the MAX to be able to authenticate _other_ connections via
CHAP while still allowing the Cisco in via PAP.
