I would try to go the MAX to MAX route at first with the option to use Cisco
1601 routers w/ external CSU/DSUs at the first sign of load; before
slowdowns begin at either end.
sorry to drop a bomb here but I would _NEVER_ depend on a P130 to maintain
my remote POP. a Max 2000 maybe but as far as I am concerned a P130 was
designed to provide high speed connectivity to a small remote LAN. not an
entire organization. A P130 might be able to transfer a large file at T-1
speeds but I don't think the processor is fast enough to handle many small
packets.
The only situation that I would consider P130s in is if the 4048 was
tunneling everything across the T-1 to a router on the primary LAN. This is
based on the assumption that with a tunnel many small packets can be
combined into a stream of large packets. If tunnels encapsulate individual
packets into slightly larger packet except that they now have tunnel
headers, this is an even worse idea.

PS I'd like to hear comments on how this tunnel stuff works.
