5.0Ap24 has been a rock for me.  50 MAX products and no problems.

Anything newer has always had a small problem in one way or the other. 
6.0.x's problem has been dismal throughout.  In some places, 6.0.x has
seemed to cause spiral-death downloads; either the modems retrain to
2400bps or the max doesn't spit out data, but after disconnecting and
redialing the problem disappears for 10 minutes, then starts up again.
