(ASCEND) interpreting modem avm diagnostic stats

I need some help interpreting modem stas I get from the avm command in
diagnostic mode:

For example,

Modems on free list:
...
Modem 7:4, 402 calls, 128 bad, last 32 calls = ffcff257 dir=3

This presumably refers to modem 4 in slot 7. What does '128 bad' mean?
Does it mean out of 402 calls 128 are bad and not connected? Is this
normal?

All the modems seem to have pretty high 'bad' rate. Some more so than
others.
